Modified Soccer

BREAKING NEWS...   BREAKING NEWS...   BREAKING NEWS...

For the first time in many years, our modified soccer program will have two SEPARATE gender teams beginning with the Fall 2018 season! We will still combine with the Harpursville School District, but we will have a new girls modified-A team coached by Coach Ward, and a separate boys modified-A team coached by Coach Giblin. This is exciting news, and should benefit both teams as our soccer program continues to grow in size and ability. Good luck to both teams this year!

2017 Season Summary

Our mixed competition Afton-Harpursville modified soccer program enjoyed another season of improvement while continuing to play in the boys’ Modified-A league. Many of our players enjoyed watching and learning from matches played by the NCAA D-I Binghamton University men’s team, and we also watched a professional MLS match as the Philadelphia Union beat the Chicago Fire!

Our large team (27 players) was again grouped into two squads, and we scored more goals than in any of our previous five seasons combined! With an influx of new players from both school districts, the team made visible progress throughout the season. Positive sportsmanship and being role models both on and off the pitch were once again stressed. We did our best to maintain positive attitudes toward each other and toward our opponents. Both squads continued our tradition of welcoming our opponents before each match as they arrived at our home pitch in Afton.

Guided by coaches Ward and Giblin, the team looks forward to the future of the soccer programs in both school districts.
