The Winter Festival will be held on Friday, February 10. The no-show snow “rain date” is Friday, February 17, with indoor activities planned if we do not have snow. Events for grades 3-6 will take place in the morning with K-2 events in the afternoon. Family members are welcome to attend and watch or assist with events. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately.

The PTO’s Sweetheart Dance (father/daughter dance) will be held on Friday, February 10, from
6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria. The cost is $7.00 per couple (plus $2.00 for each additional child). Ticket form and payment is due by Monday, February 6. This traditional event is for all elementary girls and their adult male dates. Events include: dancing (a DJ will provide music),
a carnation for the girls, cookies, juice, and a picture of the couple. Don’t forget to wear your red, pink, and purple! Please contact the office if you need further information.

Winter is officially here.  Temperatures are dropping, snowmen are being built and snowballs are taking shape.  Please remember when there is a delay, there will not be breakfast, chorus or band.  If there is a two-hour delay, morning Pre-K is cancelled.  Sometimes when bad weather occurs during the school day, we may have to dismiss students from school early.  Please remind your child about the plan so that they are comfortable with the emergency location where they will be sent.  An automated call will be made to parents/guardians when there is an emergency dismissal.  Announcements will also be made on the radio and television in the event of an emergency dismissal.  Please do not call the school for this information.  We are unable to make changes to student locations during an emergency dismissal.  Therefore, please ensure that your child’s information is up to date.

Please talk about the word of the month at home with your child.  Read stories and talk about how children can be honest with their words and actions. Valuable teachable moments can occur when they are not being honest; it’s a good time to feel okay about making a mistake and feeling even better when fixing it to demonstrate honesty.

It is my hope that everyone has a healthy winter season. Sick children should be at home for comfort and recovery. In making that decision, please remember that we do have an attendance policy. Students that have more than 20 absences per school year tend to struggle and have larger educational gaps. Students with 30 or more absences may require retention due to loss of instructional time and educational gaps that result from frequent absences. Please keep in mind that three tardies and/or dismissed earlies equal one absence. Thank you for helping help your child.
