Marcella Rhodes – Director of Special Education
Mrs. Rhodes earned an Associate in Science degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Broome Community College, and Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences as well as a Master of Science degree in Special Education from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She completed her administrative coursework at the State University of New York at Cortland, earning a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration.
Before becoming the Director of Special Education at Afton, Mrs. Rhodes was a special education teacher and girls’ field hockey and volleyball coach. Mrs. Rhodes’ hobbies include detailing cars and building or fixing things. She and her husband do lots of things together. They walk, bike, play volleyball and kayak, to name a few. Cuddling her Boxer and visiting her two grown children are two of Mrs. Rhodes’ favorite things. Student success is her top priority and a student smile will make her day.
Marie Loher – Elementary Guidance Counselor
Marie Loher is the newly appointed elementary school counselor for Afton Central School. Ms. Loher is a certified school counselor for grades K-12 and received her Master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta. She is also a certified athletic coach and plans to use this certification at the middle/high school level. As part of the elementary school team, Ms. Loher’s plan is to advocate for all students as well as support the teachers and staff in the building. Her role will be focused primarily on prevention and intervention throughout the building. Ms. Loher will be implementing research-based programming in the classrooms and providing small group and individual counseling as well. She is an avid reader, coffee lover, and frequent gum-chewer and enjoys spending time with her dog, Luke. Ms. Loher said that she is looking forward to this school year and is very excited to be a part of the Afton Central School District.
