Pumpkin Pie in a Bag

Hannah Rion, the Farm to School Coordinator for the Food and Health Network, visited the Agricultural Education program at Afton to do a hands-on activity called “Pumpkin Pie in a Bag”.  

Mrs. Reeder's Food Science and Mrs. Garlitz’s science class enjoyed the activity. The lesson involved students mixing vanilla pudding mix, milk, canned pumpkin, cinnamon in a bag and pipping into a cup with graham crackers. After the students mixed the ingredients and finished the lesson, they were able eat their “pumpkin pie.” Students thought the activity was both educational and delicious. 

After the lesson, Mrs. Reeder’s 8th-grade Leadership class went to the school garden and harvested the last of the vegetables that were planted in June. Afton CSD received a $500.00 from Hannah Rion and The Food and Health Network to improve the school garden.
