Patrick Haynes, son of Paul and Pamela Haynes of Afton, has achieved the academic honor of Valedictorian for Afton Central School's Class of 2019. He has maintained a seven-semester grade point average of 98.42%. 

As a member of the National Honor Society and YES! Leads, Patrick has been a positive role model to his peers and elementary students alike. Patrick has taken several concurrent enrollment courses as well as online college classes during the last three years of high school. Outside of school, he is a member at the First Baptist Church of Afton and also a member of the Trustees Board there. Patrick is an employee at Cents-Able Solutions, where he is a part of the lawn care crew, works on landscaping projects and helps out in any way he can in the winter. In his free time, he volunteers at Camp Good News, maintaining the grounds and performing odd jobs around the camp. Patrick has gone on Mission trips to Georgia and Tennessee fixing up homes for the less fortunate.

Patrick would like to thank his family for all the fun times and different opportunities over the past several years that have helped him expand his skill set. Along with his high school diploma, Patrick will earn his Associate’s Degree in Business through Tompkins Cortland Community College in June. Patrick is going to Alfred state to get an AOS degree in Heavy Equipment Operations. He wants to then get a job operating equipment on a job site or on a farm. He wants to be able to use some of the skills he learns at college to accomplish the job at hand.



Madison Baciuska, daughter of Lynn and Dawn Baciuska of Afton, is the Salutatorian for Afton’s Class of 2019 with a seven-semester grade point average of 97.148%.   

Throughout her time at Afton, Madison has been involved in various extracurricular activities. She has also been awarded several academic and athletic awards. Madison has participated in varsity field hockey, varsity bowling and varsity softball and has received the scholar athlete award multiple times. She is an active member in both YES Safe Choices, a leadership program that focuses on the prevention of drug and alcohol misuse, and SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions throughout high school. She has also taken part in Student Government, Yearbook Committee and Mock Trial. She is currently the class of 2019 Treasurer. Madison is a member of the National Honor Society and has maintained high honor roll throughout middle and high school. In tenth grade Madison was chosen to attend HOBY, a leadership conference. She was also selected to represent Afton this year at the Scholar Recognition Banquet.     

Madison has volunteered her time in many ways throughout her high school career. She volunteered in elementary classrooms reading with children and helping them learn their math facts. She also volunteers her time coaching and refereeing youth field hockey teams. Through local churches, Madison has volunteered at harvest dinners and Vacation Bible School. Madison has also volunteered her time at a local nursery school.     

Madison has filled her academic schedule with challenging classes. She has taken advanced classes as well as multiple college courses. Madison is currently part of the DCMO BOCES New Visions Allied Health program, where she is able to shadow different medical professions as well as increase her knowledge of the medical field with her coursework.     

After graduation Madison will be attending Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina, where she will be a student athlete on their NCAA Division I field hockey team. She will be majoring in Health and Exercise Science. After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree Madison plans to pursue medical school.
