Ms. Covey, Afton Central School District English Teacher, was thrilled to bring a guest speaker to her classroom to educate her students about communication.
Retired New York State Trooper Rebecca Covey came to speak about the importance of different forms of communication with Mrs. Covey’s sixth and tenth-grade students. She went over various forms of written and non-verbal communication, verbal communication, and societal norms which can be very distinct for different ethnic and religious groups. She explained how communication can be affected by a person’s ethnic background, social or work status, or age group and why it is important to recognize and be respectful of all individuals with whom you need to communicate.
