Afton teacher students at the State Fair

On August 26th, Afton FFA members proudly participated in an educational evening at the New York State Fair from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. In partnership with the NY Animal Agriculture Coalition, students Kitty C. and Tabi C. joined Mrs. Reeder at the Birthing Center, where they helped feed calves, monitored dairy cows for signs of labor, and engaged with fairgoers through trivia games. Attendees had the chance to test their agricultural knowledge and win fun prizes! We are so thankful for our students' noteworthy contributions to the New York State Fair this year.

Each year, the Birthing Center opens a window into dairy farming. By allowing fair visitors to witness calves being born, attendees have the opportunity to learn more about dairy farming. Visitors can see how farmers care for their animals firsthand. The Birthing Center is operated by the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition. Their mission is to provide education for consumers, transparently communicating farming practices to consumers, and connect consumers with farmers.
