track kids on podium
H-A Outdoor Track participated in the Section IV State Qualifiers on Wednesday and Thursday at Union Endicott HS. In Outdoor Track and Field, to advance to the State Qualifier meet, athletes must either place top three in Class at the Sectionals meet or have a result in the top 24 (18 for field events) in all of Section IV during the season, regardless of class or school size. With 7 athletes advancing, this marks a modern era program record for Harpursville-Afton.

Appalonia Bushaw took the Section IV title in Pentathlon, an event that has participants compete in five events, the 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and the 800m run (1500m for Boys). Her overall score of 2767 set a new Harpursville-Afton program record and qualifies her for the NYSPHSAA State Meet in Webster next weekend. Jake Barber competed in the Boys Pentathlon, scoring 1844 points to place 6th despite a DNF in the 1500 due to injury on Thursday. Pierce Bushaw and Nolan Shofkom (High Jump), Sean Fowler (3000m Steeplechase, 5th Division 3) and the Boys 4x100m of Pierce. Bushaw, Nolan Shofkom, Jayden DeLeon, and Marcus Chavis (6th, Division 3) also represented the H-A program. Good luck to Appalonia next weekend as she competes for a State championship!
