👹 Monsters Mash Monday!

Today kicked off our Halloween Spirit Week at Afton Middle/High School! Students and teachers were encouraged to dress as their favorite monster or wear green, purple or black.

We give an A+ to Mrs. Garlitz and her giant spider costume!

🎨🎶 Where Art Meets Music at Afton Elementary!

Our elementary hallways are filled with creativity! Take a look at some of the wonderful artwork our talented young artists have been creating and displaying throughout the building!

But there's more than meets the eye! 👀 Some of the displays feature QR codes that you can scan to listen to a song that accompanies the project. Each project has its own unique song, adding a fun musical element to our students' artistic creations!

We love seeing our students' creativity brighten our hallways!

ON TO THE POSTSEASON THIS WEEK!

The varsity BGAH Cross Country team will compete in the MAC Championships on Wednesday in Bainbridge starting at 4 p.m.

Additionally, the Afton/Harpursville varsity volleyball team will travel to Chenango Valley on Wednesday for a MAC Tournament matchup at 5:30 p.m.

📌 REMINDER: Girls Basketball Parent Meeting Tonight! 🏀

We will hold a girls basketball parent meeting tonight, Monday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

This is a mandatory meeting for all 7th-12th grade students planning to play basketball this winter.

Youth basketball players and parents are also welcome to attend to learn more about the 7th-12th grade girls basketball program!

🏃🏐 ON TO THE POSTSEASON!

We wish the best to our BGAH cross country team as they compete in the MAC Championships at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with races beginning at 4 p.m.!

Additionally, the varsity Harpursville/Afton Volleyball team has earned a sectional qualifying season! Sectional seeding is Tuesday, Oct. 27, and we are anxiously awaiting our placement by the committee. Sectional play will then begin on Monday, Nov. 2, with the higher seed getting the home game. Thursday, Nov. 5, will be the semifinals hosted by the higher seed, followed by the finals on Nov. 7 at Tioga.

But before we get to sectionals, we wish the best of luck to the varsity Harpursville/Afton Volleyball team as they will compete for 3rd and 4th MAC overall as they travel to take on Walton tonight!

🍎 A BIG CRUNCH FOR THE BIG APPLE! 🍎

Today, Afton Central School District celebrated apples and New York apple farming by participating in the 14th annual Big Apple Crunch!

Thanks to our wonderful Food Services Department, all students received apples to enjoy as part of the celebration. But we decided to take this year's festivities one step further!

Students and staff from BOTH buildings gathered outside in the bus circle to form one GIANT apple! With the help of Mr. Hunter's drone, we captured an aerial photograph of our creation. Mrs. Reeder and her students formed the apple's stem, while another group brought the leaf to life! 📸

We loved seeing so many smiles and hearing all the laughter as everyone worked together to make our giant apple a reality. Check out the photos to see how we did!

🍏 DID YOU KNOW? The apple is New York's official state fruit! New York is the nation's second-largest apple-producing state, with approximately 10 million apple trees. The state's first apple tree was planted in New York City way back in 1647!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make today's celebration such a fun and memorable experience for our Crimson Knights!

🌟 Celebrating Our Bright Knights!

This morning, Afton Elementary held its second Bright Knight's Ceremony of the school year, recognizing the students and staff who help make our school community shine!

We kicked things off with special guests from our high school SADD team, who shared details about a poster project they're sponsoring beginning next week, coinciding with a special SADD-themed elementary Spirit Week!

The celebration continued with several special recognitions:
👏 Three Elementary Employees of the Month
🏆 Golden Trash Can Award
🚶 Safe Walkers of the Month
🚌 Safe Bus Riders of the Month
🏅 Two randomly selected ticket winners, each receiving a medal and prize
🌟 Knights of the Month, with one outstanding student nominated by each elementary teacher!

Congratulations to all of our honorees! Thank you for demonstrating what it means to be a Bright Knight and making Afton Elementary a wonderful place to learn and grow!

📅 Our next Bright Knight's Ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 20. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend!

On Thursday, our students enjoyed "candy corn parfaits" at breakfast: mandarin oranges, pineapple and yogurt (optional granola) topped with a few candy corn!

Everyone loved them! Next week, we'll be serving "apple nachos" for breakfast!

🌷 Afton FFA Flower Arrangement Workshop

On Wednesday, Afton FFA hosted a Flower Arrangement Workshop in our new Agriculture Education room! Participants spent the evening getting creative, learning new floral arrangement techniques and making beautiful arrangements to take home.

A special thank you to Harper Najarian, owner of Petonia Petals , for sharing her time and talent with us! We had a great evening filled with flowers, laughter and creativity.

🚌 It's School Bus Safety Week! 🛑

This week, Oct. 19-23, Afton Central School District joins schools across the country in recognizing National School Bus Safety Week!

Keeping our Crimson Knights safe is a shared responsibility! Whether you're behind the wheel or waiting at the bus stop, a few simple reminders can make a big difference:

🟡 Slow down and stay alert in school zones and neighborhoods.

🛑 NEVER pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are flashing.

🚸 Watch for children entering or exiting buses and crossing the street.

🚌 Students: Stay seated, follow your bus driver's instructions and always wait for the driver's signal before crossing.

A special THANK YOU to our dedicated Afton Central School District bus drivers and transportation staff who work hard every day to get our students to and from school safely!

🏀 Modified Girls & Boys Basketball Start Date

The modified girls and boys basketball season will start on Monday, Nov. 2. All practices and home games will be in Afton.

Please make sure that your student-athlete has a medical card filled out, as well as the medical information. If your student-athlete has not played a sport yet this year, they must also complete the athletic contract packet. Please turn these forms into the main office or physical education teacher.

Please check in with Kathy Shaffer or Tracy Simmons if you are unsure whether you have a current physical. You must have a physical completed within the last calendar year of the season beginning. Please contact your medical provider to schedule a physical before the season begins.

On Saturday, members of the Afton FFA Officer Team attended the Chenango County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, held at Austin Farm Enterprises, LLC, in Bainbridge.

Students enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Austin Farm Enterprises, LLC, and spent the afternoon surrounded by local farmers, agricultural leaders and community members who share a passion for agriculture.

The officer team was able to see the Chenango County Farm Bureau in action, learn more about the organization and make connections with people who help keep agriculture strong in Chenango County.

Our Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor, Cat Reeder, also serves on the Chenango County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as Secretary and Pro-Education Chair. Having our students involved in events like this is a great way to connect what we learn in the classroom to the agricultural community around us.

Thank you to the Chenango County Farm Bureau and Austin Farm Enterprises, LLC, for a wonderful afternoon and for continuing to support the next generation of agricultural leaders!

Afton Agriculture/FFA students also helped with the event by making the table centerpieces using fresh-cut flowers from our school garden. It was a nice way to share a little piece of our Agriculture Education program with everyone attending!
