Statewide School Email Threat, Highly Questionable Credibility This morning, at approximately 8:30 am, we received a very vague and general email threat stating bombs have been placed in all school districts across New York State. The email threat originated in Schenectady, NY which is geographically located near Albany. Afton officials immediately cooperated with state and local law enforcement and proceeded to transact a comprehensive threat assessment protocol. In very short order, the email was quickly determined to be of highly questionable credibility given the remote geographic origin and non-specific nature of the written threat. Further, in an abundance of caution, district security cameras were checked, and school administrators, in conjunction with the district’s SRO, conducted a sweep of buildings. This incident remains under investigation by law enforcement officials in the Albany area. We will keep you updated as more information is made available. As a reminder, our district always operates in a lock-out state. This means that all doors are locked during the course of the school day to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Animal Science students had a guest visit from Randy Strong and his Alpacas on Thursday 10/12/23. Randy explained the details of Alpaca farming from breeding, daily care and feed, showing and using the fiber to make products like scarfs and mittens.

Not only was the experiment engaging, but it also created some unique colors and patterns.

Dear Parents and Guardians, The safety of our students and staff at Afton Central School District is always a top priority. As part of this, we will be having the first of four lockdown drills mandated by New York State on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. These drills will happen throughout the school year and will involve school officials and law enforcement officials. During a lockdown there are blue strobe lights on the exterior of the building that will be lit up. If these lights are on, it means that the school is in lockdown and nobody will be allowed to enter or leave the premises. We ask that you discuss the importance of participation in this drill with your child prior to the drill occurring.
