BGAH Indoor Track competed in 2 meets this past weekend.

Friday night the team traveled to SUNY Cortland for the It’s About Time meet against 11 other Section III and IV teams. This meet was used as a JV type competition for our new athletes and those that may not get to attend other competitions with the limited entries, we have for Indoor Track meets traditionally. Results highlights below:

On Sunday, the team traveled to Ithaca College for their Ithaca College Bomber High School Invite. 25 teams overall competed, including some of the largest programs in the state – Guilderland, Corning, Ballston Spa, Columbia, Mohanasen amongst others. If you don’t know, these schools are all over 1000 students on their enrollment. The Boys team placed 5th overall and 1st in Small Schools. Girls placed 16th, 6th in Small Schools. The varsity girls fell to Sharon Springs 50-37 in the championship game of the Afton Tip-Off Tournament. Rylee Rupakus scored 22 points and had 9 steals. McKenna Ross added 6 points. Megan Racine scored 4 and had a team-high 12 rebounds. Thank you to all who came to support the team and everyone who helped run this tournament!

The Afton JV girls basketball team played in in Afton tip off tournament on Thursday, 12/4, playing Worcester. Briella Fendick led the team with 11 points. Afton lost 29-14. On Saturday, Afton played Otselic Valley winning 29-34. Briella Fendick led the team with 19 points. Alivia Kietel added 7 points and Kaley Copeland had 6 points. The girls played tough defense and came out with a big win. They placed 3rd overall in the tournament.

Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team for their 50-15 win against Worcester in the first round of our tournament! Rylee Rupakus had a team-high 16 points. Megan Racine had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Shout out to Jordan Phillips and Sam Sperry for scoring their first varsity points in this game! The team will play Saturday in the tournament championship game at 4:00 p.m.

The varsity girls basketball team kicked off their season on November 28th and 29th at the Schoharie Tournament.

On Friday, the Knights defeated Schoharie 44-33. This was the first win for the varsity program since January 24th, 2022. McKenna Ross led the Knights in scoring with 15 points. Rylee Rupakus and Appalonia Bushaw also chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Megan Racine led with 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, the Knights were defeated in the tourney championship by Cherry Valley-Springfield 43-32. CV-S jumped out to an 11-point lead at halftime. Afton played them much tougher in the second half but came up short. Rylee Rupakus led with 12 points, and Megan Racine grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Knights next 5 games will be home, beginning with the Afton Tip-Off Tournament December 4th-6th.
