Last week (March 16–20), our Afton FFA members had the opportunity to celebrate Ag Literacy Week by visiting second grade classrooms!
Students read “Seasons on the Farm” and led a hands-on activity where 2nd graders created their own “season on the farm,” bringing agriculture to life in a fun and engaging way. Agricultural literacy is all about understanding where our food comes from and recognizing the value agriculture plays in our everyday lives. With over 20% of our nation’s workforce connected to food production, processing, and distribution—and the fact that we all eat—these lessons matter more than ever. Through programs like New York Agriculture in the Classroom, we’re working toward a future where all students understand the importance of agriculture, explore career opportunities in the food system, and see the connection between agriculture and their daily lives. Thank you to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County for making this event possible.
