Students in Mrs. Gartliz’s college-level Principles of Biology class conducted a Capillary Action Lab to study how different liquids flow through various mediums, such as paper towels, and without external forces. Not only was the experiment engaging, but it also created some unique colors and patterns.

Dear Parents and Guardians, The safety of our students and staff at Afton Central School District is always a top priority. As part of this, we will be having the first of four lockdown drills mandated by New York State on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. These drills will happen throughout the school year and will involve school officials and law enforcement officials. During a lockdown there are blue strobe lights on the exterior of the building that will be lit up. If these lights are on, it means that the school is in lockdown and nobody will be allowed to enter or leave the premises. We ask that you discuss the importance of participation in this drill with your child prior to the drill occurring. If you have any questions, please contact the main office of the school your child attends. Sincerely, Uday S EdD Elementary Principal/Safety Team Coordinator Afton Central School District

Afton Central School Are you looking for ways to help our students in the Afton Area? You don’t need to live in Afton to help our students. If your area does not participate in these organizations, please consider helping Afton students! The three ways you can help our students are as follows: 1.) Box tops for Education: Box tops no longer do the clipping of the boxes, instead, simply download the app (available for IOS and Android), create an account if you don’t have one already, and scan your receipts. Choose Afton Central School and submit your receipt. It’s that easy. If you don’t have the app or don’t want to download it, simply send your receipts by mail or in person within 14 days of purchase to us at the address below. I will scan your receipt and throw in the trash afterwards. Attn. Stephanie Ives 29 Academy Street Afton, NY 13730 2.) Register your Price Chopper AdvantEdge Card: Shop at Price Chopper/Market 32 to help our school earn free classroom equipment! Please link your AdvantEdge card to our school code at: rewards.pricechopper.com. Each time you shop and have your linked card scanned, our school will earn free classroom equipment, all donated by Price Chopper/Market 32. Look for Afton Elementary School. 3.) GotSneakers: GotSneakers is an organization we are collaborating with to help raise funds for our students. Got Sneakers collects unwanted sneakers (No heels, dress shoes, work boots, sandals) in any condition and recycles them. They give us a small amount of money for each pair collected. If you have any unwanted sneakers you are looking to get rid of, please bring them to: Afton Elementary School 29 Academy Street Afton, NY 13730 You may also call (607) 639-8234 and speak with Stephanie Ives for further options. You may send them in with students and have them drop the sneakers off in the elementary office to Mrs. Ives. Sneakers must be tied together. Only pairs can be sent in. This will be an ongoing fundraiser for our students, so please send them in anytime!
